Water treatment

Water your residents can drink from the tap.

Skratchsphere tests, treats and maintains estate and building water from the borehole to the last tap, and publishes the results every month.

The problem

Most Nigerian estates run on borehole water. Very few treat it properly.

Public water supply does not reach most estates, so every estate is its own water utility. Borehole water across Nigeria commonly carries dissolved iron that stains tiles and laundry, hardness that scales heaters and kettles, and, where tanks are not cleaned, bacteria. Many estates installed a treatment plant at handover and have not serviced it since. Residents respond by buying bottled water and blaming the estate manager.

Raw and treated borehole water samples
What we do

Six things, in the order your estate needs them.

  1. Source assessment.

Borehole yield, pump condition and raw water analysis at an accredited laboratory.

  2. Treatment design.

A treatment train sized for your estate's demand: aeration and iron removal, filtration, softening where hardness requires it, activated carbon, and disinfection by ultraviolet or chlorination.

  3. Supply and commissioning.

Equipment sourced from manufacturers with local support, installed and commissioned by our engineers, with a written commissioning record.

  4. Tank hygiene.

Scheduled cleaning and disinfection of storage tanks, with photographs before and after.

  5. Monthly testing.

Treated water sampled at the tank and at a tap in the estate, tested against the Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water Quality, with results published to the exco and on a resident notice.

  6. Operation and maintenance.

Consumables, filter changes, dosing calibration and repairs under a monthly contract with agreed response times.

What you receive
  • A laboratory report on your raw water and a written treatment recommendation
  • A fixed-price proposal for supply and installation, or rehabilitation of your existing plant
  • A monthly maintenance contract with named technician, response times and consumables included
  • Monthly published water quality results
Commercial buildings

Offices, hotels, schools, clinics and event venues have the same borehole problems with a higher cost of failure. We provide the same testing, treatment and maintenance, with hygiene records suitable for corporate audits.

Questions

Questions we are asked about water.

Our estate already has a treatment plant. Do we need a new one?

Usually not. Most plants we see need servicing, media replacement or a missing stage added. We tell you which after the assessment.

How often should estate water be tested?

Monthly for treated water at the point of use, and after any tank cleaning, pump change or flooding.

Can you clean our tanks without cutting supply?

Yes, where the estate has more than one tank or a storage buffer. We schedule cleaning for low-demand hours and notify residents in advance.

Who pays: the developer or the residents?

Before handover, the developer. After handover, the residents' association through the service charge. We can structure the contract either way.
